Dr. Wood specialized in Family Medicine-- which means she is trained to manage pediatric care, adult medicine as well as full spectrum women's health (including obstetric and gynecological care). Prior to completing her family medicine residency, she also trained in general surgery and is wilderness medicine certified.
Primary care covers a broad array of medicine-- from preventative wellness visits to management of complex chronic diseases. Integrative primary care is a holistic approach to primary care that incorporates evidenced-based 'alternative' treatments when appropriate. The key is that this approach blends traditional western medicine with evidenced-based eastern medicine (rather than subscribing to one approach or the other). Many of our pharmaceuticals treat the symptoms of disease rather than getting to the root cause. With an integrative approach, Dr. Wood seeks to discover the underlying cause of disease in all of her patients. Sometimes supplementing with an adaptogenic mushroom will be all you need... and sometimes pharmaceuticals or surgery is warranted. That is the beauty of blending healthcare approaches from around the world.
